Asmar Oemar Saleh
Lahir di soppeng, Sulawesi Selatan, 28 Febuari 1958, Asmar memperoleh sarjana hukum di Fakultas Hukum Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta (1985). Dunia aktivisme mulai digelutinya sejak masa kuliah. Di antaranya dia pernah menjabat sebagai Ketua Umum Korkom HMI UII Yogyakarta (1979), Ketua IKAMI Sulsel Cabang Yogyakarta (1980), Ketua HMI Cabang Yogyakarta (1981), dan Eksekutif di Dewan Mahasiswa (DEMA) UII.

Riwayat pekerjaannya merentang panjang. Pada 1982 dia menjadi Ketua Lembaga Studi Nusantara (LSN) Yogyakarta, lalu menjadi Pemimpin Redaksi pada Pusat Latihan, Pendidikan dan Pembangunan Masyarakat PLP2M Yogyakarta pada 1983. Pada 1988 menjadi Ketua Komite Pembela Aksi Pro Reformasi Sulawesi  (KPAPR), dan di tahun yang sama juga menjadi Anggota Komite Pembela Kebebasan Pers Ujung Padang. Selama 1999-2000 dia menjadi Koordinator Anti Corruption Committee (ACC) Sulawesi, dan menangani sekitar 60-an kasus korupsi yang melibatkan pejabat Pemda Tingkat I dan II Sulawesi Selatan.

Asmar pernah menjabat Deputi III Bidang Penanggulangan Pelanggaran HAM pada Kantor Menteri Negara Urusan HAM Republik Indonesia periode 1999-2001. Kemudian, pada 2004 mendirikan Reform Institute, Jakarta.

Lama non-aktif sebagai lawyer karena berada di pemerintahan dan aktif di Reform Institute. Selanjutnya pada tahun 2007 kembali aktif sebagai advokat sampai sekarang dengan menangani cukup banyak kasus-kasus besar berskala nasional.

Kariernya sebagai advokat berawal dari Kantor Hukum Asmar Oemar Saleh & Associates Bone-Makassar, dari 1986-1999. Dia banyak menangani kasus perdata, pidana, perusahaan, dan kasus-kasus yang mempunyai dimensi hak asasi manusia (HAM).

Pada 1997, Asmar dipilih sebagai pengacara favorit di Sulawesi Selatan oleh Forum Studi Media Massa Indonesia (Fosdiami). Setahun kemudian, dianugerahi penghargaan Amanna Gappa sebagai Pejuang Hukum oleh PERSAHI (Perhimpunan Sarjana Hukum Indonesia). Penghargaan dari Menteri Negara Urusan Hak Asasi Manusia Republik Indonesia atas partisipasi dan jasa jasanya dalam membantu Penegakan dan Pemajuan HAM di Indonesia (2000).

Asmar kerap menjadi pembicara di berbagai seminar. Di antaranya, pada Februari dan Agustus 2000, Asmar menjadi salah satu pembicara pada Seminar Internasional Asia Pasifik tentang Otonomi Daerah dan HAM di Australia, dan menjadi delagasi Indonesia pada Sidang ke-52 Sub Komisi HAM PBB di Jenewa. Pada tahun yang sama menjadi Koordinator Pelaksana Lokakarya Nasional Kasus Orang Hilang: Pengungkapan dan Penyelesaian Masalah serta Koordinator Pelaksana Seri Diskusi Terbatas Komisi Kebenaran dan Rekonsiliasi di Indonesia : Mandat, Institusionalisasi, Kendala dan Prospek.

Asmar aktif menulis masalah-masalah hukum , HAM, politik dan sosial di berbagai media massa, antara lain, Kompas, Republika, Sinar Harapan , Media Indonesia, Tempo, Gatra, Panji Masyarakat, Humanis dan lain-lain.

Founder


Asmar Oemar Saleh Born in Soppeng, South Sulawesi, February 28, 1958, Asmar obtained a law degree at the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia (Universitas Islam Indonesia, UII), Yogyakarta (1985). He started being an activist during college. Among others he has served as General Chairman Korkom HMI UII  Yogyakarta (1979), Chairman of South Sulawesi Yogyakarta Branch IKAMI (1980), Chairman of HMI Yogyakarta Branch (1981), and the Student Executive Counsil (DEMA) UII.

The History of his career streches. In 1982 he became the Chairman of Institute for the Study (Lembaga Studi Nusantara- LSN), Yogyakarta, and then became Chief Editor of the Center for Exercise, Education, and Comumunity Development PLP2M Yogyakarta in 1983. In 1998 he was the Chairman of Action Committee defense Pro Reform Sulawesi (KPAPR), and in the same year was also a committee member of The Freedom of the Press, Ujung Padang. During 1999-2000 he became the coordinator of the Anti Corruption Committee (ACC), Sulawesi, and handled approximately 60 cases of corruption in volving goverment officials Grade I and II , South Sulawesi.

Asmar has served as Deputy III for Handling Violations of Human Rights in Human Rights Affairs Office of the state Minister of the Republic of Indonesia during the period 1999-2001. Then, in 2004 founded the Reform Institute in Jakarta.

De-active as a lawyer for a certain period of time due to work with goverment and active in Reform Institute. Then in 2007, reactivate as an advocate and take in hand some national legal cases up to present.

He started his law firm Asmar Oemar Saleh & Associates  Bone-Makassar, during 1986-1999. He handled many cases of civil , criminal, corporate and cases that have a dimension of human rights, among others.

In 1997, Asmar was selected as favorite lawyer Sulawesi Selatan by the Forum Indonesia Mass Media Studies (Fosdiami). A year later, he was awarded  Amanna Gappa as a Warrior of Justice by PERSAHI (Association of Indonesian Law Degree). He received an award by the Minister of State for Human Rights in the Republic of Indonesian on the participation and services in helping Enforcement and Promotion of Human Rights Indonesian (2000).

Asmar is often a featured speaker at various seminars. Among others things in February and August 2000, Asmar became one of the speakers at the International Seminar in Asia-Pasific on regional autonomy and human rights which was held in Australia, and became the Indonesian delegated at the 52nd Session of the UN Sub-Commission on Human Rights in Geneva. In the same year, he was the Coordinator of the National Workshop Involving Case of Missing Persons; Disclosure and Settlement Issues, as well as Coordinator of the Limited Series Discussion of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Indonesia: Mandate, Institutionalization , Constraints and Prospect.

Asmar is an active writer on legal issues, human rights political and social development in various media, like Kompas, Republika, Sinar Harapan, Media Indonesia, Tempo, Gatra, Panji Society, Humanists, and others.
